Penny Colman, Award Winning Author for All Ages

Penny Colman pictured in the center of some 6th graders

Young writers and authors of Grade 6 and 8 were thrilled to spend the morning of October 18, with author Penny Colman. Ms. Colman writes about significant, but not usually well-known women. The day began when Ms. Coleman was greeted by two 8th grade ambassadors who gave her a brief tour of the school. These two students had the opportunity to engage in conversation with Ms. Colman about her profession and even share their own experiences in writing with her. Ms. Colman then spent time with three sixth grade language arts classes, answering questions regarding writing and literature as well as giving suggestions about how to write effectively. A small group of 8th graders was privileged to have an experiential session with Ms. Colman in which they were given many helpful tips for award winning writing. Such new insights will be useful as these students enter the Power of the Pen competition. Ms. Colman was especially impressed with the equality of leadership and scholarship displayed by both girls and boys.
