Prayer at the Beginning of the School Year
On Friday, September 9, Grades 2-8 will join in prayer for a successful school year for each student. Each day preschool students
through grade 8 unite in prayer for the many intentions of our families, our neighborhoods, our country and our one world.
Literary Winners
We congratulate Katie one of our 8th graders for being a winner in a Cleveland Plain Dealer contest this summer. Katie wrote one

Metro Catholic Celebrates International Day of Peace
Stephen Campus
All students at the Stephen Campus gathered for prayer together in the auditorium. Scripture readings, song, reflection on peace composed and read by threee seventh graters, a violin solo and a power point presentation created around the song, "Let There Be Peace on Earth" focused all on peace and non-violence. The prayer service concluded outside in the Peace Garden and potential green space. There students were anointed by their homeroom teachers-an action that strengthens their resolve to choose peaceful ways-and then each one place a pinwheel filled with peaceful wishes on the fences or in the garden beds. |

Boniface Campus
Through symbolic gestures including the lighting of candles and planting themselves as seeds of peace, the students at the Boniface Campus gathered in church to pray to be nourished and to grow as peacemakers, instruments of God's peace. They placed symbols of peace, love, pardon, faith, hope, light and joy on the peace tree as reminders of what all hope to live. The service was concluded by processing outside singing "Prayer of Peace," saying the "Pledge of Allegiance" and releasing ballons together. |
Metro Students Support Water Project for Sumbuk, India, Advent 2010.
Student Government in cooperation with the Metro's Advent Committee are sponsoring activities to generate money for the Water Project in Sumbuk, India where the Sisters of Notre Dame operate Notre Dame School, a Health Center and a Women's shelter.
UPDATE! Metro Students collected over $800 during Advent. This is way beyond our expectation and goal!

Currently these three ministries as well as 22 other families in the area share one water source. Sumbuk gets water from a hilltop about one mile distance and at a height of 6000 feet. The connections are very temporary. Many other people also use this same water source and so water is a precious comodity. In consultation with the people who share the water source, Sister Sreeja in India proposed the following project:
- Make a concrete source tank at the origin of the water at the top of the hill.
- Bring the water down to 5000 feet where a distribution tank can collect the water through the use of metal pipes buried deep into the ground.
- One pipe line would go directly to the compound where the school, Health Center, Women's Center and 22 other families will benefit from clean water.
- The people of Sumbuk will help support the project as they are able.

The school of 500 is in a beautiful area of north India in the Himalaya Mountains by two Sisters of Notre Dame from India. Metro Catholic and Notre Dame School share a founding date of 1988!
Friends of Metro Catholic who would like to contribute to the Water Project may write checks payable to Metro Catholic School and be sent to Metro Catholic School, 1910 West 54th Street, Cleveland, OH 44102. Please designate the gift for the Water Project.
